Nove organizações internacionais, que atuam na defesa de direitos humanos em todo o mundo, se uniram para pedir ao Estado brasileiro que se abstenha de adotar a Proposta e Emenda Constitucional, em curso na Câmara dos Deputados, que visa reduzir a maioridade penal de 18 para 16 anos.
Na declaração, as organizações da sociedade civil destacam que a medida “violaria as obrigações do Brasil nos termos da Convenção das Nações Unidas sobre os Direitos da Criança (CDC) e seria um meio ineficaz de resolver delitos cometidos por adolescentes”.
O discurso falacioso de que a redução da maioridade penal resolveria os problemas da segurança pública no país, também é rebatido na declaração. “Essa reforma apenas aborda os efeitos e não as causas do problema, excluindo uma série de variáveis responsáveis pela prática de crimes”.
